The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: Diane Spokus, Ph.D., CHES, is a faculty member in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State. She worked on various research projects, including the multi-site ACTIVE project, where older adults were tested in cognitive and physiological factors affecting independence. She has also served the past six years as a member of the Allied Health Care Steering Committee of the Workforce Investment Board examining ways to address the critical workforce shortage areas in health care. She teaches six college courses and is, concurrently, a Health Educator for AHEC where she has worked as a coordinator of community-based diabetes Train-the-Trainer programs. Her areas of research interest include factors influencing older healthcare worker retention. In addition, she is also the co-author of a book entitled, Working Longer: New Strategies for Managing, Training and Retaining Older Workers, published through AMACOM. This "How To" book for employers and corporate trainers provides comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of best practices used in recruiting, retaining and developing older workers. She authored several publications, including being a member of the advisory board that worked with the PA Department of Aging, Experience Works and Corporation for a Skilled Workforce to recently develop the PA Employer Toolkit on Older Workers for the Workforce Investment Board. She is a member of SHRM, ASTD, GSA, APA, NCOA/ASA, the MWA & the HFES & the International Society of Gerotechnologists. |
